So I was able to make the module work with relatively simple fixes on my Pixel 3a XL. It might be due to how close Pixel 3a XL is to Pixel 3, but I took the A10 beta file posted from the first page and mostly just deleted extraneous .xml files.

The only two xml files I used were "android.hardware.vr.high_performance.xml" and "android.software.vr.mode.xml" though I'm not even certain that "android.software.vr.mode.xml" is needed. I've put those in <system/vendor/etc/permissions>, and I deleted all other xml files included. I made sure the "system.prop" and "post-fs-data.sh" are spoofing Pixel 3 (since it matches the resolution of Pixel 3a XL) and it worked.

I hope this helps anyone else who have Pixel 3a line, and for people with other phones, good luck since I feel like it only works because Pixel 3a's are still Pixels.

I know Daydream is phasing out, but I'd love to help get this working for any fellow OP6 owners. I'm running Pixel Experience, and the A10 beta installs and works, except the resolution is off. The Daydream app menu is stretched wide, and NFS: No Limits doesn't display an image at all (though I can hear the menu soundtrack). Any pointers for where I can start tweaking this module to match my resolution (1080x2280)?

Thanks in advance for helping keep the dream alive!

I tried this on a Oneplus 7 pro, which seems almost ideal for Daydream with its high-resolution 90Hz OLED screen and powerful hardware. Got me a brick and a free round in the re-installation game...

It's a real shame, not because I think that mobile phone based VR is a mainstream thing, but because it's a niche that suits me. I got all kinds of Oculus VR kit, but sometimes I do travel. And there the ability to watch a 3D movie is pretty nice.

Also with VRlink it's easier to do some VR demos with people who can't handle the cables.

Now that Daydream capable hardware is becoming mainstream, it's downright awful, that it's no longer supported.
Of course it should surprise no one: There is no money in giving fun away for free...

allmost got it to work.
But i need that god damn controller, to finish the setup.
Cuz an Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard apparantly isnt good enough.

Using a LG G6 with Android 10.

Whenever I try to install it in my android 10 OnePlus 5T it goes into a bootloop. I can get daydream to "work" with pix3lify but everything looks super distorted :(

Bootloop for Redmi Note 7 with A10, no signal with Pix version. Thanks for the workaround to fix the bootloop!!

OP7T Mclaren version here, got it working by deleting most of the xmls and moving them around a bit. I cant link it due to being a new user, but you can send me a PM and I'll link it over. Only issue I have is in the daydream app everything is a little distorted but once I get into a different VR app everything is normal again.

tried with M9t pro on android 10. module workes and Daydream starts as expected but in VR the images look distorted, I think there is some axis or gyroskope mess up... horizontal movement is ok but vertical is messed up

after installing some apps the Problem seems to be limited to the Daydream app, Google photos and youtube seem ok!

but how? /system writing on android 10 is not allowed

I just tried the android 10 beta on a galaxy s10+ and it didn't work.
It boots fine, but right after loading my wallpaper before loading any app, i get a SystemUi message error, and nothing loads, no app, nothing!
I had to go through the config panel to my apps, then to magisk, to unload the module, so i could use the rooted system again.

But the unrooted system was fine. I'm running the "dual boot" magisk root method

Is fhere anything i could edit to run the daydream?
I tried the build.prop method changing device name for sailfish, and i kept getting smart thing error messages forever!

Edit:

I did my own workaround and managed daydream to launch.

I got the unlocked file, deleted it's system folder and replaced with my own system which had only build.proper (which was my own, but renaming my galaxy 10+ to a galaxy 9+ model), and added my handheld file, adding the 2 last lines as on the sailfish workaround.

The problem now is that my daydream controller can pair, but it doesn't move. It gets stuck

Edit 2: nevermind it was low battery. I didn't let it charge long enough lol.. gonna see of it's working fine now, and if yes, I can upload my file here in case you guys want it

The unlocker.zip is a Magisk module, you install with the Magisk app

Installing Magisk Module
  1. Download the module to your phone's storage.
  2. In Magisk Manager, open the sidebar and select Modules.
  3. Hit the Plus icon, then locate your downloaded module.
  4. Long press on the module and select Open. It will begin installing right away.
  5. Reboot your phone when prompted.
